About Alexander Pontikos, MD

Dr. Alexander N. Pontikos is a Fellowship-trained Gastroenterologist at The Gastroenterology Group in Akron, Ohio. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and has a passion for learning the newest treatments for GI care. He is particularly skilled in colorectal cancer screening and surveillance, therapeutic, diagnostic and capsule endoscopy, and managing various digestive disorders.

Dr. Pontikos received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Buffalo (SUNY) in Buffalo, New York. Passionate about pursuing his medical degree, he went to Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, Virginia, to achieve his medical licensure as a Doctor of Medicine.  

After receiving his medical degree, Dr. Pontikos completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. He taught medical students and performed several procedures to diagnose and treat infection of the GI systems.    

He later completed a Fellowship with Metrohealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, where he became the Chief Gastroenterology Fellow and acquired new skills in diagnosing, treating, and preventing issues with the digestive system. 

Dr. Pontikos cares about his patients and ensures that they receive the best care possible. He focuses on the patient’s perspective, listening to their concerns and helping them determine their best treatment method. He looks forward to getting to know his patients at The Gastroenterology Group and working alongside the team.

Dr. Pontikos enjoys spending time outdoors with his family by camping, hiking, or boating. He is an avid sports fan and also enjoys arts and music.
